Tourist Guide to Famous Beaches in Montreal

The largest city in Quebec is a beautiful setting for many beaches in the city and many others which are less than an hour away. The river Saint Lawrence meets the city at various junctures to form most of the beaches in and around Montreal.

The humidity of the summer months makes localities and tourists alike throng the beaches and lakes around Montreal. here is nothing that beats a relaxing day with the sun in attendance, walking on the sand, and going for a dip in the shores.

Jean-Dore Beach

The beach is on the Parc Jean Drapeau and is located right near the downtown. You can hop on a bicycle and ride to the beach, or take the metro or just walk to the beach. To get some exercise on the beach you can play beach volleyball here. The beach provides tourists an opportunity to canoe and kayak as they explore the waters. The beach has a 15000 square meter swimming area for children and adults.

Clock Tower Beach

The beach is on the right in the Old Port of Montreal. You don’t have to head far away from the city to reach this beach to unwind and relax. Swimming is not allowed on the beach but you can lounge on the pretty blue chairs found everywhere on the beach. The beach gives you stunning views of the skyline of Montreal. In summer, in the evenings you can enjoy the fireworks that are displayed from the Old Port.

Point Calumet Beach

Christened the party beach of Montreal with some crazy and fun club parties hosted at the beach in summer. If you are a partygoer, this beach should be on your bucket list. One section of the beach is for the party people and the other section is for families. The beach has plenty of activities from kayaking, canoeing, andplaying soccer, and volleyball.

  • Location – 53 kilometres, less than an hour away from Montreal
  • When to visit – June to September
  • Timings – Weekdays - 10 AM – 6 PM, Weekend – 12 PM – 7 PM.

Verdun Beach

The beach is right behind the Verdun Auditorium in Arthur-Therrien Park and is accessible easily by metro and car. You can also bicycle along the waterfront to this beach. There is a park at this beach, set at the riverside which is frequented by tourists. The beach has a designated swimming area for tourists to access. There is a climbing wall at this beach for those seeking adventure.

Saint Zotique Beach

Saint Zotique Beach is on the shore of the river Saint Lawrence. The beach is located in the town of Saint-Zotique. The beach has over 5 kilometres of waterfront and plenty of beachside activities for tourists to engage in from barbequing, pedal boating, and tennis courts. You can also take on walking and hiking on the trails near the beach. It is a very popular beach and gets quite crowded, especially during the weekends.

Oka Beach

The beach is located in the Oka National Park. Oka Beach is a perfect place for a family visit with a picnic site, barbequing, and camping areas. For those who want to explore the area, there are bicycling and hiking trails nearby. You get a stunning view of Lake Deux Montagnes at the park. For hikers, they can take on nearby trails like the Calvaire trail to add adventure to their visit.

RécréoParc Beach

The beach has two zones, one for children and infants and the other one for adults. It has plenty of activities like slides for kids. Children have a playground where they can play and adults can play volleyball at the beach. Families can picnic at the many picnic sites and tables across the park.

Saint Timothee Beach

The beach is located in Valleyfield. This beach is also on the shore of the Saint Lawrence River. There are plenty of picnic tables for families to enjoy the beach air and shores. The volleyball courts on the beach are accessible to children and adults to play. There is also a mini zip line near the beach for adventure seekers. The people who want to explore the waters can canoe, kayak, or paddle boat across the waters. For hikers, there are trails nearby to explore as well.

Saint Gabriel Beach

There is a trek that is about 10 kilometres long is the perfect place for trek lovers as you are in the wilderness exploring it. You can take up swimming and kayaking and paddle-boating at the beach. Major Beach

The Major Beach is one of the largest beaches around Montreal. The beach is isolated with not a huge tourist inflow. You can explore the beach on a canoe, kayak, and boat. Lac Saint-Joseph Beach
